How to find square footage
To find how much dirt, rock, mulch or sod is needed to cover any area you will need first the square footage of that area.

To find this you need to multiple the width by the length.
example: 4 feet wide and 30 feet long ( 4x30=120 square feet)

How to find square footage
How much is needed for a 4 foot x 30 foot area 4 inches deep.
4 x 30 = 120sf divided by 81 = 1.48 yards.

How to find square footage
1) Measure the length and width of the area you wish to cover, then multiply the width and length (width x length)= Square Footage

2) EXAMPLE: If length = 72 feet, and width = 4 feet, then (72 x 4) will equal 288 square feet.

3) After you have calculated the total square footage, and decided how you want to place the rock, apply the following rule of thumb:
